Quick answer
How many days are there between two dates?
The date difference is the end date minus the start date, counted in days. For example, 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 364 days (365 if you count the end date), which is 52 weeks and 260 working days from Monday to Friday.
- Include end date to count both days of a period, such as leave
- Working days are Monday to Friday; holidays aren’t removed
- Leap years add 29 February automatically
How is the date difference in days counted?
The calculator counts calendar days from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. Tick “Include the end date” to count both days, which is how leave and notice periods are usually counted.
Example: 1 March to 5 March
The gap is 4 days. Counting both the 1st and the 5th, the period is 5 days long.
Use the “include the end date” option for leave, holidays, notice periods and course durations, where the last day counts too. Leave it off for an age, a deadline or a countdown, where you want the gap between the two days.
How many days until a date?
Use the date difference calculator as a day counter. Enter today’s date as the start date and the day you’re counting down to as the end date. The quick buttons fill the end date with today, next 1 January or 31 March, the end of India’s financial year.
From 21 October 2026, for example:
| Until | Days | Weeks and days | Working days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 December 2026 | 65 | 9 weeks, 2 days | 47 |
| 1 January 2027 | 72 | 10 weeks, 2 days | 52 |
| 31 March 2027 | 161 | 23 weeks | 115 |
If the end date is before the start date, the calculator counts the gap the other way, so the result is never negative.
How are working days counted?
Working days are Monday to Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are counted as weekend days. Public holidays aren’t removed, because they differ by country, state and employer, so subtract your own holiday list from the result.
March 2026, counted from the 1st to the 31st with the end date included, has 31 days: 22 working days and 9 weekend days.
