Quick answer

How is the life path number calculated?

Your life path number is found by reducing your birth day, month and year to single digits, adding them, and reducing the total again, while keeping master numbers 11, 22 and 33. For 15 August 1995: 6 + 8 + 6 = 20, which gives a life path number of 2.

  • Range: 1 to 9, plus master numbers 11, 22 and 33
  • Birthday number (Mulank): from the day of birth only
  • Method: Pythagorean numerology, the most widely used system

How do you find your life path number from your DOB?

Enter your DOB and the life path number calculator reduces the day, the month and the year separately, adds the three, then reduces the total once more. Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are kept at every step.

Life path = reduce( reduce(day) + reduce(month) + reduce(year digits) )

Example: 29 November 1988

  • Day: 29 → 2 + 9 = 11, a master number, so it stays
  • Month: 11, also kept
  • Year: 1 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 26 → 2 + 6 = 8
  • Total: 11 + 11 + 8 = 30 → 3 + 0 = 3, The Communicator

A master number in the steps doesn’t make the final number a master number. Here the total of 30 still reduces to 3. The calculator also shows your birthday number, from the day alone, which is close to the Mulank in Indian numerology.

What is the meaning of each life path number?

  • 1, The Leader: independent, driven, original
  • 2, The Peacemaker: sensitive, cooperative, diplomatic
  • 3, The Communicator: creative, expressive, social
  • 4, The Builder: practical, loyal, disciplined
  • 5, The Adventurer: curious, adaptable, freedom-loving
  • 6, The Nurturer: caring, responsible, family-minded
  • 7, The Seeker: analytical, private, spiritual
  • 8, The Achiever: ambitious, authoritative, business-minded
  • 9, The Humanitarian: generous, idealistic, wise
  • 11, 22, 33: master numbers with amplified intuition, vision and compassion

Why do some sites give a different life path number?

Some calculators add every digit of the date at once instead of reducing each part first. The two methods only disagree around master numbers. For 2 January 1970, reducing each part gives 2 + 1 + 8 = 11, a master number. Adding every digit gives 20, which reduces to 2. This calculator uses the first method, which most Western numerologists teach.

Numerology is for self-reflection and entertainment, not a scientific prediction.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my life path number?

Reduce your birth day, birth month and birth year to single digits separately, add the three results, then reduce the total to a single digit. Keep 11, 22 and 33 as they are, because they are master numbers.

What is the life path number for 15 August 1995?

Day 15 reduces to 6, month 8 stays 8, and year 1995 adds to 24, which reduces to 6. Then 6 + 8 + 6 = 20, which reduces to 2. The life path number is 2, The Peacemaker.

What are master numbers in numerology?

11, 22 and 33 are master numbers. They are not reduced further and are read as stronger versions of 2, 4 and 6.

Which life path number is the luckiest?

No number is luckier than another in numerology. Each life path describes different strengths and challenges.

Is the life path number the same as the Mulank?

No. In Indian numerology the Mulank (root number) comes from your birth day alone, while the life path number (close to the Bhagyank) uses your full date of birth. The calculator shows both.

What is my life path number if I was born on 29 February?

Leap-day birthdays work like any other date. For 29 February 2000, day 29 reduces to 11, month 2 stays 2 and the year adds to 2, so 11 + 2 + 2 = 15, which reduces to a life path number of 6.

Is the life path number Pythagorean or Chaldean?

The life path number uses the Pythagorean method of reducing your birth date. The Chaldean and Pythagorean letter charts matter only for name numbers, which you can find with the name numerology calculator.
