Quick answer
How do I pick a random name with a wheel?
Type each name or option on its own line, then press Spin. The spin the wheel tool chooses the winner with a cryptographic random number generator, so every entry has an equal chance, and then animates the wheel to land on it. Tick “Remove the winner” to draw several winners without repeats.
- Fair: every entry has exactly 1/n chance
- Multiple winners: remove each winner after a spin
- Presets: Yes/No and “What to eat?”
What can I use a spinning wheel for?
- Picking a winner for an Instagram or YouTube giveaway
- Choosing a student to answer in class
- Deciding who pays, who goes first or what to eat
- Party games and truth or dare
How does the random name picker choose a winner?
When you press Spin, the random name picker chooses the winner first, using your browser’s cryptographic random number generator. Only then does the wheel animate to land on that name. The spin looks like luck, but the pick is already fair: with n names, each has exactly a 1 in n chance.
With the six sample names, each person has about a 16.7% chance. With 50 giveaway entries, each has 2%. If someone appears twice in the list, they get two slices and twice the chance, so remove duplicates before you spin.
How do you use spin the wheel for several winners?
- Type or paste names or options, one per line, up to 100.
- Press Shuffle if you want to mix up the order on the wheel.
- Tick “Remove the winner after each spin” so nobody is picked twice.
- Press Spin, or tap the wheel itself, once for each winner you need.
For three winners from 50 entries, the first spin draws from 50, the second from 49 and the third from 48.
Can it work as a decision wheel?
Yes. It makes a great decision wheel when you can’t choose. Press the Yes / No preset for a 50:50 answer, or “What to eat?” to choose between biryani, pizza, dosa and more. You can also type your own options: films to watch, chores to share or places to visit. Small everyday decisions feel easier when the wheel takes the blame.
Frequently asked questions
Is the spin the wheel tool random?
Yes. The winner is chosen with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator before the wheel starts turning, so every name has exactly the same chance.
How many names can I add?
Up to 100, one per line. You can also shuffle the list or remove each winner so nobody is picked twice.
Can I use it to pick a giveaway winner?
Yes. Paste the entrants, tick “Remove the winner after each spin” if you need several winners, and record your screen for transparency.
Can I use it in class?
Yes. Teachers often use the wheel to pick students fairly, choose a topic or decide turns. It works on a projector or smartboard.
Can the wheel pick the same name twice?
Yes, unless you tick “Remove the winner after each spin”. Each spin is a fresh draw, so without removal every name has the same chance every time.
Can I use the wheel to decide yes or no?
Yes. Press the Yes / No preset. Yes and No each appear twice on the wheel, so each has an equal 50% chance.
